USCIS Expands Global Reach with New Field Offices in Qatar and Turkey

WASHINGTON, DC – In a move aimed at bolstering refugee processing capabilities and enhancing collaboration between agencies, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced today the forthcoming opening of international field offices in Doha, Qatar, and Ankara, Turkey.

The decision, part of the Biden-Harris administration’s commitment to facilitating safe and orderly migration, marks a significant step in strengthening strategic partnerships and expanding USCIS’ presence beyond U.S. borders.

USCIS Director Ur M. Jaddou emphasized the importance of these field offices in supporting the administration’s efforts, stating, “Opening these field offices establishes a USCIS presence and expertise in critical locations in the Middle East.”

With the refugee admissions ceiling for fiscal year 2024 set at 125,000 refugees, the establishment of USCIS field offices in Qatar and Turkey will play a pivotal role in supporting the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program’s infrastructure in the region.

Qatar and Turkey, both critical locations and regional refugee processing hubs, will house USCIS field offices in the U.S. embassy facilities at Camp As Sayliyah and U.S. Embassy Ankara, respectively.

Services provided by USCIS staff at these locations will include processing of Form I-730, Refugee/Asylee Relative Petition, and assistance with fraud detection activities. Appointments for services will be mandatory, ensuring efficient and streamlined operations.

The Doha Field Office is set to open on May 7, 2024, followed by the Ankara Field Office on May 9, 2024, bringing USCIS’ tally of international field offices to 11. These offices, along with existing ones in various global locations, reaffirm USCIS’ commitment to its humanitarian mission and the integrity of the U.S. immigration system.
